While Brad was eating watermelon, Daddy and Anne were having a moment in the shade.

Summer Fun

For the past three years, my employers have invited our office (and spouses and children) out to their home for "summer fun and sun." It has been wonderful every year, but this year was the best because Brad was old enough to really enjoy himself. He had such a great time--not only do they have a pool, but they have a "playground" (the poor kid has never seen an individual swing set before--he's only been to parks with playgrounds!) and a boat and dogs and watermelon! Brad was in his element. This week will be mostly pictures of him from this weekend.

These pictures are of him in their pool--as you can see, he got his whole face wet--what a big boy! He stayed a long time in the pool and keeps asking me when we can go again.

I can never seem to get a really good picture of Anne--she's either leaning over or the light isn't right...don't worry , I'll keep practicing.

Look at me!

Clean Beans

Brad took a shower this morning and insisted on cleaning off the doors, just like Daddy. So helpful!

Anne is experiencing some post-bath munchies.

We've got in the habit of telling Brad he's a "clean bean" when he gets out of the bath or shower. So now when we tell him that it's time for a bath, he says, "No, Mommy. I not dirty, I a clean bean!"

You can't take my picture!

Ha! I laugh in the face of your feeble attempts to take my picture! You think I will sit still for you? Never! Anne sits still for no one!
Okay, I'm done with this--I have important things to do.

Oh, wait. I forgot. I can't crawl yet.

Case in Point

What's going on over there? I think there's something going on.

Oh, hey, Mama. There's something interesting over there--check it out!

This is fascinating!

Wow--I've never seen a more interesting tree!

It's a funny tree, too!

Harry Potter

I started reading the Harry Potter books in 2003. I think I like them because they're quick-n-dirty and give lots of details. When I read fiction (rare these days) I like long, well-populated novels with lots of details and a drawn-out saga. The never ending book, if you please. Think Lord of the Rings. Or all eight of the Anne books. So while I have serious misgivings about letting children read Harry Potter (don't ask why--that would be a 1,000 word essay), I can take away the good and leave the bad while enjoying a quick read.

Anyway, all that to say, I'm not going to pay $17.99 for a book I'll read once. And I didn't have to. When I put myself on the wait list at the library, I was number 249...five days into release, it's available for pickup! The library must have bought a TON of books, and people must have read it pretty quickly. So if I'm tired and cranky tomorrow morning, it's because I've been up reading about you-know-who.

Doug once wrapped Brad up in this blanket and called him a papoose; now Brad thinks that this is a papoose and when he goes to bed at night he always asks for his blanket (a white blanket) and his papoose (this yellow blanket).

They are SO different

When you handed Brad a bottle, he was content to lay on the floor and suck that bottle dry in about five minutes flat. But with Anne...you may wonder why we've laid her on the floor since she has such trouble with her reflux. It's because we literally can't hold her while she eats! She is so active and kicks and moves around so much she wiggles out of our arms, so mealtimes are spent repositioning her and last for hours (or so it seems). So we put her on the floor, and she does a little better. She still wiggles around a lot and kicks, but doesn't go anywhere.

The problem is that she likes to see what's going on at all times (does Brad have a train out again? What are the cats doing now? Is Mama doing something fun without me?), so she twists to see and ends up on her stomach, loses her bottle, and does the frog thing (she looks like a little frog when she's on her stomach, kicking her arms and feet in all directions) until someone rescues her.

The good news is that we've finally found a use for Brad (I knew having kids would come in handy sooner or later!)--when Doug and I are busy, we tell Brad to go help Anne, and he will find her bottle and roll her over and get her started again. Plus, I tell him he's so helpful, and he loves to hear that: "I so helpful, Mama! I so helpful!"

He's Gone!

Mwaa-ha-ha! Brad is gone, and now I can play with his...

...wait, what is this thing, anyway?

Stuff on MY cat!

It's a good thing we have that chair...

...otherwise, where would the cats sit? On the floor? Heavens, no!

Bathtime = Fun time

(when Mommy does it, anyway...Daddy has this silly notion that bathtime should be used for getting clean, not playing...where did he get that idea?)

Almost there...

Anne is getting better and better at sitting up by herself. That's my leg giving her a little support...notice how I'm having fun time with the kids while Doug is hard at work cleaning!

See, I told you Brad can share!

That is SO funny

What's going on over there? Let me take a break from my foot-eating to find out...

Oh, hi, Momma. Are you taking my picture again?

Looks like Daddy and Brad are watching some entertaining clip on YouTube.

Anne sure thinks it's funny!
