Sunday Morning

...we don't feed him, we just let him gnaw on coat hangers....

These pictures don't really do justice to just how much she was laughing and giggling. I love to hear her giggle--she's very girlish!

I don't usually post non-kid stuff, but this is too funny....I guess Verizon employees never learned the difference between dollars and cents!

Doug has successfully defended his thesis and was awarded high honors by Johns Hopkins University, one of only two in his program to receive high honors. He graduates with his (second) Master's on May 18th. I'll post graduation pics soon!

The Kids

He's concentrating very hard on the TV.
I could tell you about that DVD he's watching, all about Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla,
and how Rufus found a kangaroo
That followed Rufus home
And now that kangaroo belongs
To Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla.

Whew! I could say that, but I don't have to,
'Cause I got pronouns,
I can say, "HE found a kangaroo that followed HIM home and now IT is HIS"

You see, (uh) HE, HIM, and HIS are pronouns,
Replacing the noun
Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla,
A very proper noun.
And IT is a pronoun, replacing the noun, kangaroo!

Anyway, I COULD tell you all that, but don't worry, I won't...
(would someone please hide that DVD!!!)

So much for tummy time...

Family Pictures!

Anne looks a bit cranky in this picture because the photographer was waving around a toy to try and get her to smile...I just know what she was thinking: "Tell me again, why are you waving around this toy, but not giving it me? I forget."

Smiley Boy

He's waiting for me to floss his teeth--thanks to his Daddy, Brad has excellent oral hygiene--he loves to have his teeth brushed and flossed.

Now he's happy because he's "all clean!"

Smiley Girl

Wait, why are you taking my picture instead of holding me?

You think I'm kidding?

I was standing, burping Anne, with my back to the couch, with her over my shoulder. This is the result. AFTER she had exploded 15 minutes earlier (from both ends) halfway through the same bottle. It doesn't bother her, she's gaining weight, and she's happy. But my sofa is going to need professional cleaning before this is over...

She's teething!

Not only is this girl a geyser when it comes to spitting up (Brad knows how to say "geyser" now), but she is a drool machine! I've kept an eye on her for the past week, ever since I saw a teeny bit of tooth peeking through on the bottom. It hasn't popped up further, but I expect it to anytime soon.

With his best "I would like to play with play-doh" face

If you're wondering where the Brad pictures are...'s because I don't have any! Do you know how hard it is to get a 2 1/2 year old to sit still and have his picture taken? Or even look at the camera and smile? He would much rather have me take Anne's picture--for some reason, he thinks that's hilarious.

Another person who can't seem to take a good picture: me! I've had a new haircut for about a week now and every time Doug takes my picture I close my eyes. Or, I leave them so wide open it looks like I've had a botched eyebrow lift. So no pics of me until I can look normal.

And as long as I'm writing, poor Doug has had yet another kidney stone. I think this is the fourth one in four years--he has had more stones than children. Please pray that the doctors are able to figure out why he keeps having these and how to stop them.

Potty Training

How's potty training going, you ask? He made it to the potty once...but he forgot to take down his underwear, so technically it did all go in the potty, but...

This is him asking for more chips (his reward) after going...and me behind the camera saying, not until you go again!

A Girl and Her Bottle

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Anne who loved bottles. She loved them so much, she insisted on drinking from them five times a day!

Unfortunately for Anne, she was completely dependent on her parents for her bottles. And sometimes one of them (who shall remain nameless) teased her with his finger instead of a bottle.

Poor Anne! See how she reaches in vain for the bottle! See her parched tongue!

Ah! Life is good, for the teasing is over and the bottle is here.

Now Anne is done and can enjoy her post-bottle stupor.

End of the day pics

It was THIS big!

Who could possibly be watching such a boring show?

One of us is a C-Span junkie, and it isn't me!

I'm gonna get it!

Let me tell you, this girl knows what she wants. She will let you know if she is unhappy about something (just like a girl, as Doug says!). She and Brad may look alike, but they are totally different in temperament. Brad was content to play by himself and sit in his chair for the longest times. Anne screams when you put her down, but only for a few minutes, I've discovered. Every single time you put her down--whether it's to change a diaper or make a bottle or to have some tummy time--she'll scream for about two minutes, as if she just wanted to make sure you are aware of her displeasure about the situation ("Did you hear me, Mommy? I want to be held, RIGHT NOW!"), and then she'll get happy and smile and coo. I can almost hear her thinking, "This is NOT what I wanted, but if she refuses to hold me 24 hours a day, I suppose I can make the best of it!"
